West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott has said that he is ready to make his debut for the club against Everton on Saturday.

The 32-year-old England international centre-back joined the Baggies on a free transfer in the summer after his contract with Manchester City ran out at the end of last season.

Lescott’s start to life at West Brom has not been smooth as he struggled with knee and calf injuries in pre-season, but he insists that he has now completely recovered from the problems.

“I’m not sure of the manager’s plans,” he told the Express & Star. “If he asks me to play, obviously I would never rule myself out.

“Who knows what is in store? I’m just taking it day-by-day. If the manager sees fit for me to be involved at the weekend in some capacity, then great.

“Having played for Everton in the past, I’ve got a lot of close friends there, it’s always a special game against them but it will be a tough one.

“I look at the fixtures throughout the season and, having played for Everton and Manchester City, they’re the ones you’re looking at.”

West Brom manager Alan Irvine has hinted that Lescott could start against his former club Everton at The Hawthorns, having featured in a training-ground friendly against Hull City on Tuesday

"It's important we don't rush him but I'm sure he would love to play at the weekend,” he said.

"He played the full 90 minutes and looked good. It was very encouraging."
