Ronny Deila is taking the Scottish League Cup seriously and admits he would love to face Rangers at some stage this season.
The Celtic manager admits that reaching finals are important to him and he will field his strongest team in this week’s clash against Championship club Hearts.
A win over the Edinburgh side would take the Hoops into the quarter-finals, which would also include Rangers should they beat Falkirk on Tuesday.
As the two Glasgow giants are in different divisions this season, any meeting between the sides would have to happen in either the Scottish League Cup or Scottish FA Cup.
The Norwegian is keen to experience the atmosphere of an Old Firm game and he said: "We would love to play Rangers. It is a big game. I haven't seen so much of Rangers so we will see if the game does come.
“Everybody is waiting for an Old Firm game and that's what we want.”
Celtic entertain Hearts on Wednesday and Deila added: "The League Cup is very important, it is the first trophy we can win and we are going to go for it.
"Cup finals are unbelievable and that is why I am here, to win trophies and to develop the team in the right way.
"That is why I am looking forward to the game on Wednesday. I will play my best team."
