Premier League: Manager Sean Dyche upbeat on Burnley hopes

Burnley boss Sean Dyche says his players have adapted well to the Premier League but need to find a cutting edge in front of goal.

The Clarets, newly promoted from the Championship, have held their own on their return to the top flight and a positive reading of their form would point to the fact they are unbeaten in their last three games.

But another interpretation of their results might focus on their continued wait for a first Premier League win of the season and a goal tally of just one for the campaign.

"The incentive is to continue to build on what we’ve been doing, to continue with the performance level but turn that into wins - it sounds obvious and it is really," said Dyche, whose side face West Brom on Sunday.

"I’ve said many times I've been pleased with the performance level and I think the players have adapted well to the challenge of the Premier League.

"It is the cutting edge and clinical finish which you need to change a game and we need that to come - and there's another chance to do it on Saturday."

Three goalless draws in a row - against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Sunderland - steadied the ship after defeats against Chelsea and Swansea in Burnley's first two matches of the season.

But Scott Arfield's 14th-minute strike against Chelsea on 18 August remains the last time a Burnley player found the net.

"I think we had 17 efforts on goal and nine on target against Sunderland which suggests we’re heading in the right direction," added Dyche.

"You have to shoot to score and we’re doing that so we'll continue the work we do with the players naturally and then we add on to it what we see fit to open up different kinds of chances.

"If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got so we need to open up different ways of creating chances.

"We've been close but we have to turn that 'close' into reality."
