Premier League: Manchester United keeper David De Gea 'the best', says Bojan Djordjic

David De Gea’s goalkeeping heroics for Manchester United have come as no surprise to Bojan Djordjic.

A stunning performance in the 3-0 Super Sunday win over Liverpool, saw De Gea named man of the match after making a string of crucial saves to deny Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Reports emerged last week of United offering De Gea a five-year £36.5m contract that would see the 24-year-old become the highest paid goalkeeper in the world.

And Djordjic - currently playing in the Indian Super League for Chennaiyin FC - understands why the club appears to have made it a priority to do everything they can to keep De Gea at Old Trafford.

Along with perhaps Courtois, right now De Gea is the best keeper in the Premier League

“De Gea’s been unbelievable,” Djordjic told Sky Sports.

“His distribution of the ball, his kicking, his reactions and his saves have all been spot on. Going out and collecting crosses was an issue for him earlier but he’s even added that to his game.

“His talent was clear from his time at Atletico Madrid and every club in Europe would be interested in him, so of course losing him would be a massive loss.

“The Premier League is a great league to play in but so is the Spanish La Liga. He speaks the language, it’s home for him and he would be one of the main attractions there.

“Every Spanish player would love to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, so it will be a big task for United to keep him.”

Jamie Carragher says man-of-the-match David de Gea was the difference in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Liverpool

Chennaiyin FC midfielder Djordjic admits De Gea, whose contract runs till the end of next season, has proved his doubters wrong since his £17.5m move from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

“Along with perhaps Courtois, right now De Gea is the best keeper in the Premier League,” Djordjic said.

“I’ve always liked him for his shot-stopping. He’s always been good with his feet and right now he looks almost unbeatable.

“In England, it’s very easy for people to judge but all of his critics from before are now talking about him like he is the world’s best keeper.

“It’s still the same David De Gea. He just needed a little bit more confidence and a bit of time to get used to the English game”
