Mauricio Pochettino has warned that DeAndre Yedlin will need time to adapt to the Premier League.

Tottenham have announced that United States full-back DeAndre Yedlin will officially join the club in January.

The 21-year-old signed a four-year deal with Spurs in August but stayed with the Seattle Sounders for the remainder of the MLS season amid struggles to secure him a work permit.

Yedlin had pursued the possibility of getting a Latvian passport to allow him to work in the European Union, with his grandmother originally from the country.

But Sky Sports understands the player has now been granted a Governing Body Endorsement and will not need the Latvian passport.

'Potential'

"DeAndre is a young player with great potential who has already achieved a lot in Major League Soccer," said Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

"It is important for his development that he is given the time to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch and we believe that by coming to us in January it will give him the best opportunity to do so."

Yedlin, who faced Spurs in a pre-season friendly in July, has 10 international caps and made three appearances at the World Cup in the summer, including the USA's last-16 defeat by Belgium.
