Premier League: Burnley have the 'strong stuff' to remain in top flight, says David Jones

Burnley's 2-2 draw at Manchester City was not a shock result but a sign of the team's growing resilience against top opposition, according to David Jones.
The Clarets are still languishing in the Premier League relegation zone but, after fighting back from two goals down to nab a draw at the Etihad Stadium, Jones believes their resilience or “strong stuff” will help save them from the drop.
“At Burnley we are of strong stuff really and we’re becoming more resilient in this league and are believing in ourselves and I think that showed in the second half with our performance,” said midfielder Jones.
“We were disappointed not to get something on Boxing Day with the performance (against Liverpool) and we need take this into the next lot of games with good confidence and hopefully turn those performances into some wins and some points.
“We’ve been growing in belief and today was evidence of that if we needed it that we can compete with anybody.
“It’s one of the toughest places, if not the toughest place in the league to come, so great positives for us and we are really happy today.”
The Burnley starting XI has been unchanged for the last five matches, despite the busy holiday programme, but Jones said no player wanted to be rested for the City clash.
Next up for Sean Dyce's side is a trip to St James’s Park to take on Newcastle on New Year's Day.
“They’re doing well and it will be another tough game especially with the crowd behind them, but with the growing belief in our team we are a match for anybody at the moment,” said Jones.
