Mauricio Pochettino says after Sunday's Capital One Cup final defeat, Tottenham's 3-2 win over Swansea was extremely satisfying.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino praised his side’s response as they bounced back from their Capital One Cup final defeat with a 3-2 victory over Swansea.

Spurs had endured a disappointing week as they were dumped out of the Europa League by Fiorentina last Thursday and then beaten at Wembley by Chelsea on Sunday.

But goals from Nacer Chadli, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend secured a first win in almost a month and reignited their hopes of a top-four finish.

“I’m proud for our players because after Sunday it was difficult,” said Pochettino. “That was a big hit for us, but today the answer was good."

Despite dominating the second half, Spurs were given a scare late on as Gylfi Sigurdsson volleyed home in the 89th minute and Hugo Lloris then pulled off a fantastic save in injury-time to keep it at 3-2.

"We were lucky to have a big save from Hugo - one of the best keepers in world," said Pochettino. "I'm happy for the players because they deserve this victory. It was a very important three points for us.

"I'm happy with the performance, it was fantastic. It was 3-2 but we had lots of shots and had more than 60 per cent possession - only in the last minute did we put risk in the game."

Spurs now have the chance to make up ground on the top four when they play their game in hand against QPR on Saturday.

“It’s a very important game against QPR,” said Pochettino. “It’s another three points and very important to build our philosophy. (Hopefully) we are in a good condition on Saturday.”
