Dundee United midfielder Paul Paton is set to stand trial later this year for allegedly assaulting Celtic goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska.

The Northern Ireland international is accused of repeatedly hitting Zaluska on the head, to his injury, on October 20 last year.

Papers at Glasgow Sheriff Court claim Paton, 27, assaulted Mr Zaluska at Ashton Lane and Byres Road in Glasgow's west end "whilst acting with another".

A solicitor acting on behalf of Paton sent a letter to a pleading diet at Glasgow Sheriff Court in which he pled not guilty.

The trial was fixed for October 27.
