England have arrived home after technical issues kept the team and staff grounded in Turin for an extra night following their 1-1 draw with Italy.

The players were expected to return to their clubs by Wednesday afternoon with no consequences for weekend Premier League preparations.

Wayne Rooney made use of the delay to tweet: “Not a bad draw last night against Italy. The first half never went to plan and wasn't good enough but the lads did well to turn it around. Thanks to all the fans for your support and especially those in the stadium last night!”.

Andros Townsend rescued England's unbeaten post-World Cup record as his late goal at Juventus' stadium earned a 1-1 draw.

Joe Hart felt that England had enough chances to win against Italy in Turin.

England might even have gone on to match a 2006 run of eight straight wins, but in the end a draw preserved both sides' unbeaten seasons.

Manager Roy Hodgson did not hide from the criticism of his side's first-half display and captain Rooney similarly described his team as “upset” with their showing in the first 45 minutes.

However, both praised the second-half turnaround claiming the impact of substitutes Ross Barkley, Townsend and Ryan Mason was key in securing the draw.

More from Italy V England

England's next match is a friendly against the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, June 7 before they return to European Qualifying action in Slovenia seven days later.
