Blackpool supporters have attacked the directors' box and main reception area of their stadium at Bloomfield Road with a flare, smoke bomb, fireworks and eggs.

The incident occurred ahead of their Championship fixture at home to Reading, which finished 1-1, during a protest outside the stadium following the club’s relegation to League One.

A fans group called the Tangerine Knights planned the protest, in which they urged supporters to abstain from the game in defiance at chairman Karl Oyston’s stewardship of the club.

Angry supporters paraded a number of banners and chanted “Oyston out” and “we're relegated because of your greed”, before a host of objects were thrown into the cordoned-off area in front of the main entrance.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Tangerine Knights spokesperson told Sky Sports News HQ: “At the moment, we don't think this team is fit to compete in League One, let alone in the Championship, where it has been.

“Karl Oyston needs to invest and build the team to compete accordingly, but we don't think he will.

“We think money talks and hope there is enough going on among fan groups behind the scenes to one day see the club sold.”

The bottom-of-the-table Seasiders' fate was sealed by Rotherham's victory over Brighton on Monday, condemning them to the third tier of English football for the first time since 2007.
