Tiny Italian club Carpi have been promoted to Serie A for the first time in their history.

The Biancorossi, whose Stadio Sandro Cabassi ground holds only 4,144 supporters, have led the Serie B table for most of the current campaign and a goalless draw at home to Bari on Tuesday night confirmed their ascent to the top flight.

Carpi reformed following bankruptcy just 15 years ago, and the club won promotion from Serie D - a semi-professional division - only five years ago.
