Bayern Munich suffered an unexpected but far from undeserved 1-0 Bundesliga defeat at home to Augsburg on Saturday.

Raul Bobadilla scored the only goal of the game as Augsburg made the most of an extra man since the 15th minute, when Pepe Reina was sent off.

Markus Weinzierl's men missed a penalty too, but came away from the Allianz Arena with all three points and rise to fifth in the table with two games of the season remaining, keeping alive their Europa League hopes.

Bayern will now focus all of their efforts on trying to overturn a three-goal deficit against Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, with that game clearly already in the back of their minds.

Borussia Dortmund kept up their pursuit of a place in the Europa League thanks to a 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin.

Neven Subotic and Erik Durm provided the goals which lifted the Westphalians to within two points of local rivals Schalke in sixth place.

A top-six finish is normally needed to secure a place in Europe next season, but seventh would also suffice even without the need to beat Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal final at the end of the month.

Borussia Monchengladbach can start to plan for Champions League football next season after they beat local rivals Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to strengthen their claim for a top-three finish.

Max Kruse, Patrick Herrmann and Ibrahima Traore provided the goals for Lucien Favre's men, who are now just one win away from sealing their place in the group stage of next season's Champions League.

Leverkusen will still be joining them in the competition next season but unless they can make up a four-point deficit on Wolfsburg, which could grow on Sunday, they will first have to get through a play-off in August.

Eintracht Frankfurt ended their six-game wait for a win in style by downing Hoffenheim 3-1 and securing their place in the Bundesliga next season with two games to spare.

Bastian Oczipka, Haris Seferovic and Timothy Chandler had Frankfurt's victory wrapped up within the first 45 minutes, with Kevin Volland netting nothing more than a consolation for Hoffenheim just after the break.

Hannover saw what would have been a crucial three points snatched from them by rivals Werder Bremen, who kept their European qualification hopes alive with a 1-1 draw.

Lars Stindl gave the Reds the lead and they looked good value for a win which would have taken them out of the bottom three until Zlatko Junuzovic equalised late on.

As a result, Hannover remain in serious relegation danger and without a win yet in 2015 while Bremen keep themselves in the race for a place in Europe next season.

Bottom side Stuttgart boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 victory over Mainz in the final game of the day.

Daniel Didavi struck in the 66th minute and Filip Kostic added a second 12 minutes later to move Stuttgart to within one point of safety.
