Full-back Kieran Trippier says dropped points in crucial games over the course of the campaign is the reason Burnley have been relegated from the Premier League.

The Clarets produced a really gutsy display to win 1-0 at Hull on Saturday but the damage had already been done and wins elsewhere for Sunderland and Leicester condemned them to relegation.

Trippier said: “Looking at the game, it was a good three points. We had not won or scored for the past couple of games.

“We came off the pitch happy because we’d finally won a game but, obviously, the lads are disappointed that we’ve been relegated now.

“We have given everything from the start to the finish but, if you look back to the games against Crystal Palace at home and West Brom at home, we were 2-0 up in both of those games and we lost one and drew the other.

“Those are some of the missed points there and we’ve missed a few penalties at 0-0, so we’ve dropped a few points, and we haven’t always taken our chances, whereas other teams have.

“It’s obviously disappointing but we’ve got two games left now and we’re going to make sure we try and get some points.”

Prior to the win at Hull, Burnley had lost four games in a row, all by 1-0 scorelines.

And defender Michael Duff said: “I think the last three or four weeks have been the most disappointing for us.

“We’ve had opportunities in games and not taken them, and then been punished by the odd goal. Ultimately, we’ve had a go but we’ve not been good enough.”
