Signing Paul Pogba would be a huge gamble for either Real Madrid or Barcelona, says Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Terry Gibson.

Both clubs have declared their interest in Pogba in recent weeks, and Juventus have slapped a €100m price tag on the former Manchester United midfielder.

And Gibson believes paying that sort of fee for the 22-year-old would represent a huge risk for the Spanish giants.

“I’m not criticising Pogba. I still think he’s a very very good young player,” said Gibson on the La Liga Weekly Podcast.

“But I still think it’s a huge gamble for Real Madrid or Barcelona to pay the huge sum of money it’s going to take to get him to leave Juventus.

“I would rather have Claudio Marchisio. Marchisio is a better player than Paul Pogba.

“He played better at the weekend and he’s done it for a longer period of time. There’s a big age difference but Pogba’s a glamour signing.”

Pogba has attracted interest from a host of clubs around Europe, including PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

But Gibson believes clubs would be better served looking at other, 'less fashionable', players.

“There are players that become fashionable in certain transfer markets, who are going to leave," he said.

Jon Driscoll and Terry Gibson run the rule over 10 potential La Liga transfer targets that could move to the Premier League

“When we talk about Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia he’s a fashionable transfer target. I would rather have Shkodran Mustafi but nothing’s been mentioned.

“Aymeric Laporte is another at Athletic Bilbao. They are talking about huge buyout clauses. Perhaps Manchester United are going to pay £30m for his services but I’d prefer Mikel San Jose. I’m not sure Laporte is the best centre back at Bilbao.

“They are young players that burst onto the scene. They get tagged to one or two clubs and it becomes blown out of all proportions."
