Bolton lost for the first time since the opening day of the season as they were beaten 2-0 by Northampton at Sixfields.

Wanderers missed a couple of early chances and they were punished when Cameron McGeehan and Sam Hoskins struck in quick succession to make it four wins in five for Kevin Nolan's side.

Marcus Forss was denied at close-range in the first 10 minutes before Mason Burstow missed the target altogether when he only had Ross Fitzsimons to beat.

The away side struggled to maintain their early momentum and Northampton came into the game, enjoying more territory for most of the first half. The closest the home side came before half-time was a 20-yard effort from Dean Campbell, which curled just wide.

Wanderers upped the tempo in the second half and only the brilliant reactions of Fitzsimons prevented Forss from breaking the deadlock.

But the game turned with two goals in the space of four minutes.

Campbell's fine cross was turned in by McGeehan with 20 minutes to go and then a foul on Michael Forbes allowed Hoskins to score from the rebound of his saved penalty and there was no way back for Bolton.
