Plymouth missed out on the League One play-offs despite coming from two goals down to beat relegated Northampton 3-2 on a dramatic final day of the season.
Argyle trailed 2-0 after 18 minutes at Sixfields but were back level by half-time and then won it thanks to substitute Brendan Wiredu 15 minutes from time.
However, a late winner for Stevenage against Wigan meant they made the top seven at Argyle's expense.

Owen Dale missed a glorious chance to give Plymouth a lead inside 90 seconds, side-footing wide at the back post, and Northampton responded by scoring twice in five minutes.
Michael Jacobs set up Elliott List, who finished smartly to break the deadlock, before he turned scorer when lashing home a thunderous first-time strike from Nesta Guinness-Walker's lay-off.
Plymouth were shell-shocked but they regained their composure and were right back in the game after 28 minutes when Laurent Tolaj's effort deflected off a defender and wrong-footed Lee Burge.
And the visitors went into the break all square after Northampton failed to clear a corner and the ball dropped kindly for Malachi Boateng to lash in.
Plymouth, already with the momentum, were helped by Conor McCarthy's poor challenge, which resulted in a second yellow card, and Wiredu duly completed the turnaround with 15 minutes to play, whipping an effort into the corner.
At that point Argyle were in the top seven, but late goals for Stevenage and Luton meant they finished eighth.
