Oxford claim famous FA Cup scalp

Jack Midson's solitary strike gave Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford a famous FA Cup scalp as they sent League One Yeovil crashing out with a 1-0 win at the Kassam Stadium. Midson, who was involved in Histon's memorable cup run last season when they beat Swindon and Leeds, lobbed goalkeeper Richard Martin from 15 yards after 55 minutes after good play by Adam Murray and Matt Green. The Us responded with a Damian Batt long throw which was nodded back by Luke Foster and James Constable almost reached the ball ahead of the keeper. And when Constable knocked the ball forward after a clever dinked pass by Simon Clist, Green raced into the penalty area and went down after slight contact by Terrell Forbes, but the ref adjudged that Green had lost his footing. Oxford kept Yeovil pegged back in their own half, and it came as no surprise when Midson put the home side in front after 55 minutes. Yeovil had a spell of pressure with Forbes shinning a far-post effort wide and Shaun MacDonald having a shot saved. And Jon Obika had another long-range shot saved in injury-time as the non-league side held out.
