Highlights of the Sky Bet League Two match between Port Vale and Grimsby Town.

Kyle Dempsey scored the only goal as struggling Port Vale battled to a 1-0 win over out-of-form Grimsby.

Grimsby goalkeeper Christy Pym made a fine diving save to touch Onel Hernandez's low shot on to the base of a post after the winger latched on to a lofted ball in behind the defence as Vale threatened a third-minute lead.

Albanian centre-back Maldini Kacurri made a heroic goal-line clearance to deny George Hall after Pym saved a close-range shot from Max Watters as the hosts piled on the pressure in the opening half hour.

Port Vale then took a deserved lead in the 45th minute when Dempsey fired a spectacular curling shot into the top-right corner from outside the box.

Jon Brady's side nearly extended their advantage on the hour mark when striker Watters forced Pym into a sharp save with a prodded shot, before Grimsby midfielder Charles Vernam rattled the crossbar with a powerful drive from range.

Substitute Ben Waine was denied by the linesman's flag as the Valiants had a breakaway goal chalked off in stoppage time, but they held on to record only their second win of the season.
