Cristiano Ronaldo scored one and created two more as Real Madrid thumped Eibar 4-0 in La Liga on Saturday.

James Rodriguez, Lucas Vazquez and Ronaldo all struck inside 20 minutes, and Jese Rodriguez added another before half-time.

The result leaves Real four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, who travel to Real Sociedad later on Saturday night.

Zinedine Zidane made eight changes from the side that were beaten in their Champions League quarter-final at Wolfsburg in midweek, and one of those replacements, James, opened the scoring after less than five minutes.

Jese was fouled on the edge of the area, and the Colombian stepped up to curl a low free-kick inside the far post.

After 18 minutes it was two as Ronaldo teed up Vazquez to finish from close range, before the Portuguese star netted his 30th La Liga goal of the season - becoming the first player to do so in six consecutive seasons - just before the 20-minute mark, taking a touch after Jese had squared it to him before firing home.

Ronaldo then got his second assist of the afternoon six minutes before half-time, charging down the left and laying the ball across the box for Jese, who had an easy finish at the far post.

Eibar made a double change at the break and both of their substitutions had decent chances to pull a goal back in the early stages of the second half.

After 48 minutes Borja Baston turned well in the area before forcing a good save out of Kiko Casilla in goal for Real Madrid, and seven minutes later Junca fired just wide when presented with a great opportunity from 20 yards.

Ronaldo could have added a second late on but missed an open goal on the stretch after Vazquez had squared it to him in the box, before Borja missed an even easier chance at the other end - somehow only heading against the post from two yards with the goal at his mercy.

Real saw out the game comfortably, though, with Zidane and Co's attention now turning to Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Tuesday night where they must overturn a 2-0 deficit.
