Rangers are back in league action after their Europa League exploits as they host St Johnstone on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard's men earned an impressive 2-2 draw in Villarreal on Thursday night, coming close to registering their first ever away win against Spanish opposition late on before Scott Arfield saw a late chance saved.

But the former Liverpool captain is certain where his priorities lie as the club look to make up seven years of disparity on their Glasgow rivals come the end of the league campaign.

"Sunday, in my eyes, is more important than Villarreal," he said.

Gerrard prioritising league over Europe

"I made it clear to the players when we came back after the international break, after the setback against Celtic, the league games are the priority.

"Obviously Villarreal was a very important game but for me the league is the priority."

St Johnstone come into the game unbeaten since the opening day of the season, and manager Tommy Wright told the club's website he believes his side can cause an upset at Ibrox.

"Steven obviously adds a lot of pulling power there," he said. "They've done incredibly well in Europe so we're well aware that it will be a difficult game.

"I've said it all season so far - we just want to focus on ourselves and how we can impact the game - I know that if my players play to the best of their ability we can be a match for Rangers."

Rangers 4-0 Dundee

Under manager Steven Gerrard, Rangers are yet to lose a single game at Ibrox in all competitions. The Gers have won five of six home matches under him (D1), scoring 13 goals and keeping four clean sheets.

St. Johnstone have only lost one of their last nine Scottish Premiership games (W4 D4) and are unbeaten since they lost to Kilmarnock on the opening day (P4 W2 D2 L0 since). They last went five without a loss in the competition in September 2017.

Alfredo Morelos has scored in his two most recent appearances against St Johnstone for Rangers, including the final Rangers goal in their 4-1 victory over the Saints in February 2018.

Team news

Steven Gerrard will welcome back Alfredo Morelos and Jon Flanagan for Sunday's Ibrox showdown with St Johnstone.

Both striker Morelos and left-back Flanagan were absent for Thursday's impressive draw with Villarreal through suspension but return to face Tommy Wright's team.

Ryan Jack, Gareth McAuley (both calf) and Ovie Ejaria (hip) remain doubts after sitting out the trip to Spain while Jamie Murphy (knee) and Jordan Rossiter (ankle) definitely miss out.
