Simpson makes Nugent plea

Preston boss Paul Simpson has urged David Nugent to concentrate on his football.

Preston boss Paul Simpson has urged David Nugent to concentrate on his football rather than the transfer speculation that surrounds him.

The promising front-man has again proven his credentials this term with a series of promising displays, with two goals at Wolves on Friday particularly catching the eye.

Nugent has persistently been linked with a move to The Premiership over the past few campaigns, with Bolton, Portsmouth, Crystal Palace and hometown club Everton all earmarked as clubs monitoring his progress.

The former Bury hit-man is very much a key man at Preston, with Lilywhites boss Simpson eager for the player to remain focused on his football at Deepdale.

''We've already lost two big players in Tyrone Mears and Claude Davis, the last thing we want to do is lose David Nugent,'' Simpson told the club's official website.

"We've just got to keep him focused but unfortunately there are other people trying to fill his head with other ideas.

"This is an important season for David because he's had a couple of seasons of disrupted football with injuries and stuff like that."
