Revista Predictor: All to play for in Matchday 11
Friday 3 November 2017 08:50, UK
After a lot of movement in the experts' standings, the #RevistaPredictor has gone for teams out of form, a clash of the new boys and a local derby for this weekend's chosen games. David Garrido has more...
The Predictor has clearly learnt its lesson. Give us some relatively guessable first goalscorers and we'll be all over them, making picking up six points easier than beating Real Madrid right now (sorry, Madridistas...) - so this week, he's back to his tough taskmaster self.
We had the top three teams for La Liga Matchday 10 and on Matchday 11 we have none of them. Great...
MATCH 1 - Deportivo La Coruna v Atletico Madrid
None of the pundits are giving Deportivo a hope in this one - everyone is predicting an Atletico victory at El Riazor, with a clean sheet as well.
Diego Simeone's side have had a funny old season so far - domestically unbeaten but unrecognisable, in danger of going out of the Champions League and having somehow picked up the unwanted tag of "draw specialists" (six out of seven in all competitions).
Atleti need this result and we're all backing Antoine Griezmann to set them on their way - except for David Phillips who has gone for Angel Correa.
One-nil would do fine for Atleti, but a resounding win would work wonders. Depor have won twice in four La Liga games, but you'd imagine it'll be one step too far to make it three victories in five.
MATCH 2 - Levante v Girona
A meeting of two of the promoted sides, and in fact all three are safely ensconced in mid-table on the same tally of 12 points. Good team effort, guys.
And yet this game has prompted a broad spread of forecasts from our so-called experts. Rob Palmer has plummeted from top to bottom in two weeks, but his solution is to back La Liga first-timers Girona to keep up their winning streak after beating Spanish and European champions Real Madrid last weekend.
On the other hand, form man Jon Driscoll reckons Levante will bring Girona down to earth with a bump, led by captain Jose Luis Morales.
The rest of us are sitting on the fence, with David Phillips and myself going for the sneaky (or lazy) option of the 0-0 draw, worth the full 10 points if it comes in.
MATCH 3 - Real Sociedad v Eibar
A battle of the Basques at Anoeta - it might be a bit of a leveller, but Real Sociedad are surely favourites, and they're at home too.
We've all said the hosts will take the points, and relatively comfortably as well - Jon is the only one tempted by a victory margin of less than two.
Willian Jose is his pick for first goalscorer - Kevin Keatings and I agree with that - but Mikel Oyarzabal is in very good form, so that could be a shrewd choice from the other David.
You've got to feel for Eibar - winless in seven, and lacking some bite in midfield without Gonzalo Escalante and Dani Garcia.
But where better to make your mark and get back on track than in a local clash?
OVERALL STANDINGS
Kevin leads the standings but has company now from Jon D, and remember a couple of correct first goalscorers could serve as decent springboards for the chasing pack.
Don't forget to weigh in with your own predictions - you've got until kick-off in the first game (3.15pm on Saturday) to do so, by tweeting us at @SkyRevista and using the hashtag #RevistaPredictor. Buena suerte.
