Liverpool Ladies defender Alex Greenwood says the Lionesses will give it their all to become the first senior England side to win a European Championships.

England, who face Scotland in their Euro 2017 opener, took 22 points from a possible 24 during qualifying for next summer's tournament in the Netherlands, scoring 32 goals and conceding just one.

That followed a history-making 2015 where they became the most successful senior England side to travel to a tournament overseas after finishing third at the Women's World Cup in Canada.

Greenwood was the youngest member of that England squad and the left-back admits the Lionesses are now hungry for success at Euro 2017 next summer.

"We're not going there to finish third again or finish second  - we're going there to win it," Greenwood told Sky Sports.

"Regardless of Canada, we have very high expectations of ourselves. We don't want to always be known as bronze medallists, we want to compete for trophies and we want to be champions.

"We know on our day we can beat anyone."

Greenwood has endured a campaign of mixed fortunes after suffering a season-ending ankle during a Liverpool training session in the summer.

"It's been frustrating. I'm not really a player who has suffered from many injuries and you don't understand what it's like until you go through it yourself," she said.

"I've had to deal with it in my own way but I think I've learnt a lot about myself on and off the pitch and I think it's made me appreciate the game a little more.

"We didn't have much to play for this season, so I suppose the timing has been a blessing in disguise because it's given me time away to reflect on what I want from the game.

"But I don't ever want to go through it again. I've cancelled my holidays and I'm not going away because I have a lot of training and hard work to do. It's time to kick on and my preseason starts now."

Liverpool announced the departures of Dutch captain Mandy Van Den Berg and Sweden international Emma Lundh on Monday but Greenwood insists her future lies with the Reds after joining her hometown-club from Notts County Ladies last year.

"It wasn't a hard decision at all to come back home and play for the team that I have always supported," she said.

"It's something I'm really proud of and am really enjoying and hopefully I can stay here for a long time."
