Lyon's revival suffered a setback on Wednesday evening as Fabrizio Ravanelli's Ajaccio won 2-1.

Lyon's revival suffered a setback on Wednesday evening as Fabrizio Ravanelli's Ajaccio won 2-1 to secure their first Ligue 1 victory of the season. After a nightmare few weeks in which they lost four games on the bounce, Les Gones headed to Corsica undefeated in three matches. However, that run was brought to an abrupt halt by Ajaccio, who secured a 2-1 triumph at the Stade Francois Coty - Salim Arrache and substitute Aboubacar Camara on target either side of Steed Malbranque's equaliser - to win a game at their seventh attempt this term. The visitors' disappointing night was compounded by the stoppage-time dismissal of Alexandre Lacazette for a second bookable offence. The match began quietly, with the first big chance falling to Lyon's Bafetimbi Gomis after 15 minutes. The France international fashioned a shooting chance on the edge of the box, but his powerful effort was matched by a superb reflex stop by Guillermo Ochoa. The Mexican's save proved invaluable as three minutes later Ajaccio scored the opener. Arrache, making his home debut, was released by Johan Cavalli and finished confidently across Anthony Lopes from inside the area. Lacazette went close with a long-range strike as Lyon attempted to net a quick leveller, before Claude Dielna forced Lopes into a wonderful save at the other end. Ochoa denied Malbranque as half-time approached, with Clement Grenier next to be thwarted as the Mexico international parried away his 25-yard free-kick shortly after the restart. However, Lyon's pressure eventually told and Lacazette picked out Malbranque, with the former Tottenham and Fulham man beating Alessandro Crescenzi before firing home. Malbranque won that battle with Ochoa, but the Ajaccio goalkeeper took the next round of their personal duel in the 62nd minute when he turned away the Frenchman's 25-yard effort. Lyon were dominating play, but Ajaccio managed to regain the lead in the 70th minute. Sigamary Diarra released Camara in behind the Lyon defence and the substitute, with his first touch after coming on, fired the ball beyond Lopes. It was a lead Ajaccio managed to hold onto, securing a win that propelled them out of the relegation zone. To make matters worse for Lyon, Lacazette was sent off in stoppage time for two yellow cards in quick succession.
