Dortmund pull 12 points clear, but are held on home soil

League leaders Borussia Dortmund were held to a goalless draw by Rhur valley rivals Schalke on Friday. The hosts dominated proceedings at Signal Iduna Park, but were unable to make their pressure count. Numerous chances came and went, while the woodwork came to Schalke's rescue on two occasions. The result leaves Dortmund 12 points clear at the top, although Bayer Leverkusen can reduce the deficit to nine with a win at Nurnberg on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp will be disappointed his side are not further clear, though, following their endeavours against Schalke.

Struggled

With Lucas Barrios and Mario Goetze both hitting the post in the second half, the outcome could have been so different. The visitors, who handed new arrival Anthony Annan his first start, struggled to cope with wave after wave of attacks and were thankful to keeper Manuel Neuer for keeping the scores level. The closest Schalke came to forcing a breakthrough was through Manuel Jurado, who saw a shot well stopped by Roman Weidenfeller late on. The deadline was not to be broken, though, and the points were shared.
