Brighton v Carlisle preview

Brighton welcome back Chris Birchall, while Carlisle are set to name an unchanged side.

Birchall back from international duty for Seagulls

Brighton welcome back Chris Birchall from international duty ahead of their clash with Carlisle at the Withdean Stadium. The Seagulls were forced to do without the midfielder against Peterborough as he was away representing Trinidad and Tobago. But the game will come too soon for right-back Andrew Whing who is struggling with a hamstring problem. He will be unable to tackle the Cumbrians but could be fit for the first leg of Brighton's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Area Final at Luton. Glenn Murray remains out of action as he is suffering with a pelvis problem. Utility man Gary Hart is another long-term concern as he continues his battle with a knee injury. He is currently some distance away from making a return to action.

Cumbrians news

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott is set to name an unchanged side for this clash. Abbott is still without defender Danny Livesey and midfielders Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Jeff Smith. Livesey has patella tendonitis - a disease in the tendon that causes inflammation - and is likely to be out for several more weeks with Richard Keogh set to continue in his absence. Bridge-Wilkinson is waiting to see a surgeon about a piece of floating bone in his toe and looks set to be sidelined for at least two weeks. Smith will be out for a further three weeks with a hip injury, but Chris Lumsdon is available after he came through the midweek game against Walsall unscathed.
