Torino came from behind to beat Cagliari 2-1 on Wednesday evening for their first win of the season.

Andrea Cossu put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute after taking advantage of a poor clearance from Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

Torino hit back with two goals in the space of eight minutes from Kamil Glik and Fabio Quagliarella to lead at half-time.

The visitors were unlucky not to extend their advantage in the 58th minute when Omar El Kaddouri was denied by the crossbar.

Toro held on for victory at the Sant'Elia stadium and condemned the hosts to their third straight defeat.

Torino coach Giampiero Ventura, whose team had failed to score in their opening three Serie A games, benched Italian striker Amauri and fielded El Kaddouri alongside Quagliarella in attack.

Cagliari, also looking for their first victory of the campaign, were gifted the lead when Padelli's poor clearance fell to Cossu inside the area and he struck the ball into the back of the net.

The visitors pressed forward more aggressively and levelled matters in the 21st minute when Glik headed a corner past a helpless Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno.

Toro went in front shortly after when El Kaddouri fed Quagliarella in the box and the veteran forward sent a right-footed shot towards the far post and out of Cragno's reach.

Giuseppe Vives almost made it 3-1 before the interval but his powerful effort from 12 yards was saved by Cragno.

Toro picked up where they left off after the re-start and before the hour mark, El Kaddouri drilled a right-footed shot from 30 yards that beat Cragno but crashed off the woodwork.

Cagliari looked for the equaliser and with four minutes remaining had a good chance but Padelli kept out Cossu's hard drive from outside the area.
