Taylor nets winner for Carlisle

An impressive second-half fightback from Carlisle helped them maintain their unbeaten league record with a 2-1 win over Southend. Debutant Dougie Freedman put Southend ahead with a classy 24th minute strike. But Carlisle put a poor first-half display behind them to finish strongly with a Danny Graham penalty and a match-winner from winger Cleveland Taylor. Southend had the better of a stop-start opening period and Freedman's goal was a rare moment of skill. The signing from Crystal Palace gained possession 40 yards from goal and drifted inside Paul Thirlwell before curling a superb 20-yard left-foot shot just inside keeper Ben Williams' right-hand post. But Carlisle levelled with a penalty after 62 minutes. There appeared to be little real threat from David Raven's long ball into the box until Peter Clarke pushed Danny Livesey, and Graham sent keeper Steve Mildenhall the wrong way from the spot to score his sixth goal of the season. Carlisle grabbed the winner after 77 minutes when substitute Michael Bridges played Simon Hackney in and although Graham overran the winger's cross Taylor was on hand to bang home the loose ball from six yards.
