Novak and Rhodes shoot down Carlisle

Huddersfield improved their play-off prospects and extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 2-1 win over Carlisle at Brunton Park. Lee Novak's strike seized the initiative for the Terriers after just six minutes before Jordan Rhodes added a second in the 56th minute - his 18th of the season. Substitute Joe Anyinsah rammed home a shot from 12 yards in added time, but it came too late to save the Cumbrians. The visitors dominated the early exchanges and it was no surprise when they took the lead. Novak chased defender Lee Peltier's speculative long ball and calmly rounded goalkeeper Adam Collin for the easiest of tap-ins. Carlisle were forced to play second fiddle for long spells, although they should have drawn level after 42 minutes. Scott Dobie burst clear, only to be denied by the advancing Alex Smithies. As the ball bounced loose, Darryl Duffy smashed a shot against the crossbar from just inside the penalty area. Huddersfield put a stop to any hopes of a Carlisle revival, though, when Rhodes stole in at the near post to head home a right-wing corner by Gary Roberts. Rhodes missed a great chance to put the result beyond doubt in the 74th minute before Anyinsah claimed a late consolation for the home side.
