Robins look to carry recent momentum into Saddlers clash

Cheltenham and Walsall will be desperate for points to help aid their battles at opposite ends of the table. The Robins remain lodged in the League One relegation zone, but back-to-back victories have lifted them to within two points of safety. The Saddlers still harbour play-off aspirations but have seen those dreams dented by consecutive defeats, leaving them nine points off the pace.

Cheltenham team news

David Bird should return for Cheltenham as they look to extend their unbeaten run to five games. The midfielder has missed the last two matches with a groin strain picked up against Morecambe at the start of December, but could feature on Saturday. But boss Martin Allen is waiting on captain John Finnigan as he struggles to prove his fitness. The midfielder missed last Saturday's 2-1 victory at Leyton Orient with ankle ligament problems. Striker Ashley Vincent will serve a one-match ban while on-loan winger Scott Murray has returned to Bristol City. Paul Connor could force his way into the reckoning after scoring twice for the reserves in midweek.
Walsall team news
Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen is facing an injury crisis after captain Stephen Hughes and defender Stephen Roberts were both ruled out for around three weeks. Midfielder Hughes (groin) and centre-back Roberts (knee) will both miss all of the Saddlers' games over the festive period as the club look to get their season back on track having lost four of their last five matches. A virus has also swept through the club this week leaving Mullen with as few as 12 first-team players in training as they prepare for the clash at Whaddon Road. Veteran striker Michael Ricketts is expected to captain the side in Hughes' absence while Clayton Ince will continue in goal after making his return for last weekend's 2-1 defeat against Millwall.
