For the Bantams, Michael Boulding twice forced keeper John Danby into smart saves and a Paul Mullin header also called the Chester shot-stopper into action.
Visiting goalkeeper Rhys Evans found a Kevin Ellison shot hard to handle after 17 minutes but managed to snatch up the ball at the second attempt as Ryan Lowe looked to capitalise on the initial fumble.
Lowe also saw a curling effort tipped around the post by Evans as both defences held firm to ensure the points were shared.
