Clive Platt returns for Colchester, while Gabriel Zakuani is fit for promotion-chasing Peterborough.

Posh aim for second successive promotion

Colchester striker Clive Platt is back in the squad for the visit of promotion-chasing Peterborough. The big frontman has missed the last two games due to a family issue but will be available to face his former club. Skipper Dean Hammond is suspended and fellow midfielders David Perkins (knee) and Johnnie Jackson (hamstring) are sidelined along with defender Paul Reid (knee) and forward Steven Gillespie (ankle). Karl Hawley and Neal Trotman have returned to Preston but another loanee, winger Lewis Gobern, could figure after a hamstring injury. Striker Scott Vernon is back with the Us following a loan spell with Northampton but is carrying a thigh strain. Boss Paul Lambert handed a debut to 18-year-old midfielder Sam Corcoran as a late substitute against Hereford at the weekend and he could feature again.

Posh news

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson will welcome back star defender Gabriel Zakuani for the trip to face Colchester as Posh look to win promotion to the Championship. Zakuani missed the 1-0 win over Stockport last weekend with a groin niggle but is fit to return as Ferguson's side look for three points which could take them into the second tier for the first time since the 1993/94 season. An away win coupled with a defeat for MK Dons at home to Walsall will see Posh promoted and they will have Lee Frecklington fit for the trip. Frecklington returned as a substitute against the Hatters last weekend after a spell out with a hamstring injury, while Wales international defender Craig Morgan is also 100 per cent fit after nearly three months out with a toe injury. Top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith had an injury scare in midweek after kicking team-mate Charlie Lee's boot but a scan revealed he had only suffered a bruised foot and will be fit to lead the line. Left-backs Jamie Day (back) and Tom Williams (knee) remain out for the rest of the season.
