Railwaymen look to create additional breathing space

Crewe will hope to move further clear of the League One relegation zone when Bristol Rovers arrive at Gresty Road on Tuesday. Danny Woodards is an injury doubt for Crewe as the defender, who has impressed in a holding midfield role recently, suffered a slight groin strain against Colchester. He was replaced by Steven Schumacher at half-time in the 1-0 victory on Saturday and Schumacher is on standby to replace Woodards in the starting line-up should he fail a late fitness test. Young midfielders Luke Murphy and James Bailey and striker Tom Pope have all resumed training after injury and will be hoping to force their way back into Gudjon Thordarson's squad. However, defenders George Abbey (back), Chris McCready (groin) and Dennis Lawrence (cheekbone) remain sidelined.

Rovers team news

Paul Trollope will choose from an unchanged squad for Bristol Rovers but the Pirates' first-team coach could make changes to the starting line-up for his side's fourth league fixture in 11 days. One switch could see midfielder Stuart Campbell restored to the starting XI after making his return from illness as a second-half substitute in Saturday's 5-0 demolition of Walsall. Either Craig Disley or Chris Lines would make way for the skipper. Defender Joe Jacobson and striker Jo Kuffour will also be hoping for recalls after substitute appearances. The match at Gresty Road is one of two games in hand that Rovers have over many of the sides above them in the table. Two victories would put the Pirates within touching distance of the play-off places.
