Crucial block from Collins secures point

Sam Collins made a vital last-minute block to ensure Hartlepool earned a 0-0 draw from their relegation dogfight at Crewe. Gylfi Sigurdsson had the goal at his mercy in the last minute, but Collins got a vital touch to make sure his side took a point back to the North East. Calvin Zola thought he had put the Alex ahead after just four minutes, but the striker was penalised for being offside when he side-footed in Clayton Donaldson's pin-point pass. Crewe struggled to break down the massed ranks in front of them and Scott McManus blew one of the few openings from the edge of the box. Marlon Broomes almost found the opener on the stroke of half-time, but United goalkeeper Jan Budtz dived low to keep out the defender's goalbound header. Budtz made two further great saves to keep the scores level after the break. United almost nicked it but goalkeeper John Ruddy and then Billy Jones did well to clear Daniel Nardiello's double attempt from close range.
