New signings for Quakers, injury worries for Crewe

Darlington could give debuts to two new signings against Crewe Alexandra, who have doubts over three players. Nathan Porritt and Rikki Bains both joined the Quakers on Monday and are in manager Colin Todd's squad for Tuesday night's fixture. Veteran striker Dean Windass could regain a starting place for Darlington, despite costing them a point at the weekend. The 40-year-old player/assistant manager missed a stoppage-time penalty as the Quakers slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Bury, but could be involved from the start as Todd looks to inject some life into his side's attack. Lee Thorpe could be the man to make way for Windass, with on-loan David Dowson likely to retain his place. Todd is speaking to Sunderland about extending the loan deals of Dowson and Jamie Chandler and hopes to have something finalised before the game. Mark Convery could also find himself back in the starting line-up at the expense of Jeff Smith as Darlington go in search of their first win of the season.

    Crewe news

Crewe will check on captain Billy Jones and midfielders Steven Schumacher and Joel Grant ahead of their game in the North East. All three sustained knocks in Saturday's victory over Grimsby and will be assessed ahead of the trip. Manager Gudjon Thordarson told the club's official website: "We have a few niggling injuries. Billy was studded close to his hip bone on Saturday and it is badly bruised. "Schumacher had a dead leg and that is why we withdrew him towards the end, while Joel is still feeling his calf. "Joel got a kick against Blackpool and managed 60 minutes on Saturday. He should be okay but we will see how all three of them are." Defender Danny O'Donnell and midfielder James Bailey will remain sidelined with hip problems.
