Staunton faces striker issues; Coughan out for Shrews

Steve Staunton will be without strikers Lee Thorpe and Noel Whelan for his first home game in charge against promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury. Whelan was substituted after pulling a hamstring just 34 minutes into his debut in defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge last week. Thorpe missed out on that occasion through injury and will remain sidelined this weekend as Darlington go in search of their first win this season. Teenage striker Curtis Main will likely figure again having come on to replace Whelan last time. Chris Lumsden remains an injury doubt with a persistent back problem. Goalkeeper Nick Liversedge returns having served a one-match ban but may have to settle for a place on the bench behind first choice shot-stopper Russell Hoult.

Shrewsbury news

Shrews defender Graham Coughan is suspended for the trip to the Northern Echo Arena having been shown red in defeat to Port Vale. On-loan midfielder Joss Labadie will be in contention for a starting berth following his return from suspension. Striker Omer Riza is back in training but may be rested for another week. Craig Disley and Terry Dunfield are both on the mend but neither will feature against the Dons.
