Highlights from the Premier League match between Fulham and West Ham

West Ham capitalised on a Bernd Leno-Calvin Bassey blunder to earn a valuable 1-0 win at Craven Cottage - but remain in the Premier League relegation zone.

Nottingham Forest's unlikely draw at title-chasing Man City means Nuno Espirito Santo's side are still third-bottom - but their gap to safety is now only four goals on goal difference, after Crysencio Summerville pounced to win this London derby.

Their supporters certainly believe now. They chanted 'We are staying up' during their celebrations after full-time before a rendition of 'Tottenham Hotspur, we're coming for you', having sucked their rivals right into this survival scrap. Spurs, who are now only a point ahead, host Crystal Palace on Thursday.

With West Ham facing Man City and Aston Villa next in the Premier League, it was vital they bounced back from their heavy loss at Liverpool on Saturday. And they did just that, with a helping hand from their hosts.

Player of the Match: Crysencio Summerville (West Ham)

Fulham - who were chasing a third-straight league win to boost their European qualification dream - had been sloppy and fortunate not to give up a first-half penalty when Alex Iwobi leant his arm into a near-post corner. And the mistake from Leno and Bassey summed up their lack of sharpness.

Leno bumped the ball out of his area but then left it for Bassey. Bassey left it for Leno. Summerville sparked into life, took a smart touch and then arrowed the ball into the net to the delight of the travelling fans.

    Summerville spark

Crysencio Summerville has scored seven goals in his last 10 appearances for West Ham United, after scoring just once in his first 38 games for the Hammers across all competitions.

But Fulham could count themselves hard done by, too. Mateus Fernandes escaped a second yellow card for a foul on Josh King and Marco Silva's side also had a penalty awarded their way overturned in the second half, when it was eventually judged Tom Cairney fouled Taty Castellanos while shooting and not the other way around.

    Team news

    • Fulham made four changes from the win over Spurs, with Harry Wilson missing out with an ankle injury. In came Josh King, Samuel Chukwueze, Tom Cairney and Antonee Robinson.
    • West Ham made two changes from the loss at Liverpool: Soungoutou Magassa and Konstantinos Mavropanos made way for Callum Wilson and Jean-Clair Todibo.

They threw bodies forwards in search of a response to Summerville's goal but Rodrigo Muniz's header looped over and Mads Hermansen - who had saved brilliantly from King on the stroke of half-time - produced another stunning stop to deny Timothy Castagne and preserve West Ham's clean sheet and earn three precious points.

Fulham - without star man Harry Wilson and his final-third quality - missed the chance to go level on points with eighth-placed Everton and sit 10th.

    West Ham on the rise

West Ham United have won four of their last eight Premier League games (D2 L2), as many victories asmore than they managed across their first 21 matches this season (W3 D5 L13).

Nuno: A special night - but we require a lot more

West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo:

"Special night. A tough place to come. We don't measure belief. We always had belief, hope. Today was a big day for us. The situation hasn't changed. Nothing has changed. We require a lot more.

"Last week was a bad day for all of us [conceding five at Liverpool], to come here and have a clean sheet is massive.

"We've been more resilient, more organised, in our defensive organisation we've been strong enough to allow our players to press... We are improving slowly. Important to keep going, keep realising we still need to improve."

On the West Ham supporters: "With our fans today, they realised the moment of the club and helped the boys a lot. We have to keep fighting together."

Summerville: We have to fight until the end

West Ham's Crysencio Summerville to TNT Sports:

"We have to fight till the end, that is what we did. Everyone knew it was a difficult place to come to.

"We have to keep going now. The only way is up now. Our fans are our 12th man on the pitch."

On his goal: "It was a good pressing move and I needed to take composure. I am happy I could finish the action.

"The coach said to us we have to be composed. I took the advice and I'm happy!"

Silva: Fernandes should have been sent off

    Fulham boss Marco Silva:

"If you give a foul on King in that moment, 100 per cent sure by the rules it's a yellow card. If you give that free-kick for us, the game is going to be completely different [because Fernandes is sent off].

"The game was not the most beautiful game. The performance from the referee was not at the level."

On the overturned penalty: "[VAR] John Brooks saw it in a completely different way to the referee. It's difficult to accept. I don't want to talk about the decisions of John Brooks every time he's involved in Fulham games."

Analysis: Wilson's absence felt by Fulham

    Sky Sports' Peter Smith:

It had been over four months since Fulham started a Premier League game without Harry Wilson in their starting XI. But once again they came undone without their star man.

Fulham have now failed to win all four of their top-flight games when their Welsh wizard has been missing - and they badly lacked his final-third quality against West Ham.

Afterwards, Marco Silva insisted the players who had come in had the quality to impact the game. But if they had the potential to do that, they certainly didn't show it. This was a blunt display, in comparison to the way Fulham pulled apart Spurs on Sunday.

Wilson has nine goals and six assists in the Premier League this season. You have to go back to the days of Dimitar Berbatov to find a Fulham player who has contributed goal involvements in that volume.

With Wilson out of contract this summer, this was a glimpse of how big a hole he could leave in Fulham's attack.

For now, Fulham fans will hope Silva's assessment that his ankle injury is not serious.

Analysis: West Ham have Premier League lifeline

    Sky Sports' Patrick Rowe:

A big, big three points for West Ham. It doesn't take them out of the relegation zone, given Nottingham Forest's surprise draw away at Manchester City, but it brings them within touching distance of safety with nine games remaining.

Level on points with Forest and just one point behind Tottenham.

It wasn't pretty but Nuno Espirito Santo was right when he said the belief they will stay up is "strong and growing".

The pressure on the teams above them has now been ramped up and all eyes will now turn to how Spurs fare against Crystal Palace on Thursday.

Fourteen points from their last eight games in the Premier League is not a team going down swinging, it's a real lifeline for a side who are willing and capable of winning ugly when it matters.

The same cannot be said for some of the teams they are competing with.
