Nathan Broadhead scored the first senior goals of his career on his full league debut as Burton came from behind to win 2-1 at Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.
The Gills took the lead after seven minutes when Malian midfielder Ouss Cisse fired home only his fourth goal in English football following Kieran O'Hara's fumble.
Albion initially wasted several opportunities to equalise, as Gillingham summer signing Jack Bonham parried Lucas Akins' tame penalty wide and produced a quick-fire double save to deny Broadhead and Ryan Edwards.
Broadhead drew Nigel Clough's side level after 42 minutes, brilliantly curling low into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
The 21-year-old Everton loanee put the visitors ahead three minutes later when he got the final touch on Edwards' low delivery across the face of goal.
His unforgettable day almost ended with a hat-trick, but his late 20-yard free-kick curled narrowly over Bonham's bar.
Gillingham, who named eight home debutants in their starting 11, came closest to an equaliser when Brandon Hanlan dragged a low shot wide approaching the hour mark.
