New York City moved to the top of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Houston Dynamo in Texas.
David Villa scored twice in the second half to send them above Toronto FC and city rivals New York Red Bulls although they are still to play this weekend.
The former Spain international opening the scoring in the 52nd minute, firing in a fine effort on a tight angle after a great short corner involving Andrea Pirlo.
He then blasted in his 21st goal of the campaign in the first minute of second half stoppage time, after some great build-up play from Alejandro Antonio Taylor Jr and Federico Bravo as the visitors hit Houston on the break.
Taylor Jr then fired in a cross from the left flank to find an unmarked Villa at the top of the box, who made no mistake in hitting home.
The result moves City two points clear at the top of faltering Toronto, while Houston's hopes of making the post-season end with a defeat which means they remain bottom of the Western Conference.
