Results elsewhere in midweek confirmed the Terriers would have nothing left to play for with the top six mathematically beyond them, making this a dead rubber for both sides.

Lucas Akins opened the scoring in the 15th minute against his former club in his home town, applying a simple finish to Rhys Oates' low ball across the face of goal.

Mansfield doubled their lead just before the break after Tyler Roberts got free in the box and powered a low ball across the face of goal that Murray Wallace could only divert into his own net.

Regan Hendry made it three on 51 minutes with a well-struck effort from 25 yards, but Marcus Harness responded with a goal from a similar range nine minutes later.

Mansfield kept that goal flurry going through substitute Oliver Irow, who sprinted in behind the Huddersfield defence and wrong-footed half-time replacement goalkeeper Nik Tzanev from a narrow angle.
