Borussia Monchengladbach moved back up to third in the Bundesliga on Sunday thanks to a 2-0 win over Hannover.

Patrick Herrmann netted both goals for Lucien Favre's men, who dominated from start to finish and could have won more comfortably against a Hannover side who have still to win a single game in 2015.

The win gives the Foals a two-point advantage over fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen and five over Schalke in fifth.

Gladbach soon made their intentions clear as they kept the ball and attacked the mass ranks of Hannover players.

Herrmann hit the post from an offside position before Gladbach's metronome Granit Xhaka tried his luck from long range, only just missing the post.

Raffael also saw an effort miss the target before Max Kruse tested Ron-Robert Zieler.

The game was being played exclusively in Hannover's half of the field, yet the Foals were not managing to make the most of their dominance.

That changed just before half time when Xhaka spread the play to Thorgan Hazard, whose powerful low cross from the right picked out Herrmann at the far post, and he stroked in his seventh goal of the season.

Hannover tried to respond early in the second half with Joselu going close and Salif Sane giving Yann Sommer his first challenge of the evening.

However, Gladbach remained the superior side and, after Xhaka and Hazard both went close again, they doubled their lead in similar fashion to their first.

Kruse was the provider, this time from the left, and it was Herrmann who provided the finish from right under the crossbar to seal the points.
