Millwall 3-1 Charlton: Steve Morison at the double for Lions

Steve Morison scores twice as Millwall beat Charlton 3-1 in League One as Karl Robinson still awaits his first win as Charlton boss.

Millwall returned to contention for the League One play-off places with a 3-1 victory in the south London derby that extended Karl Robinson's winless run as Charlton manager.

Two goals from Steve Morison and another from Aiden O'Brien gave the hosts a deserved win over their rivals, who slid to 14th after Nicky Ajose scored their only goal.

The win was Millwall's first in the league since November and took them up to 10th, four points off the top six. Charlton's promotion ambitions continue to dwindle, with Robinson so far overseeing three defeats and two draws since his recent appointment.

Millwall had been the more threatening team when, in the 40th minute, they took the lead. Shaun Cummings delivered a high cross from the right wing, and from within the visitors' crowded penalty area O'Brien headed into the top-left corner beyond goalkeeper Dillon Phillips.

Charlton's heads - perhaps not unexpectedly given their poor form - instantly dropped, and within two minutes they inexplicably presented Morison with a fine chance to double Millwall's lead.

What appeared a hopeful long ball from Shaun Williams became an impressive pass when Charlton amateurishly left Morison free in the area, gifting him an abundance of time and space, and the striker responded with a superb first-time finish on the turn into the bottom corner.

The nature of the goal meant the game already looked close to settled but, four minutes after half-time, Charlton's promising Ademola Lookman broke into space before unselfishly squaring to Ajose, where from close range the striker instinctively finished past Jordan Archer.

Morison's second, and 11th of the season, came in the 60th minute. Fred Onyedinma played a composed dummy before finding the striker, who from inside the area shot into the bottom left corner to secure all three points.
