Miguel Angel Llera misses MK Dons' game at home to Southend, who are waiting on Francis Laurent.

Llera banned for hosts, Laurent worry for visitors

Miguel Angel Llera misses Milton Keynes Dons' game at home to Southend United, who are waiting on Francis Laurent. Spanish defender Llera was sent off for a second booking after just 36 minutes of the 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day as Roberto Di Matteo's side continued their excellent away form. Luke Howell is likely to come into the side at right-back with Jude Stirling moving into the centre to partner Sean O'Hanlon. Dean Lewington has returned to training and Di Matteo is hoping to have his captain in the squad for the game. The left-back rejoined the squad for training this week after four weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury and may be on the bench. Danny Swailes will not be considered as he continues to recover from surgery on an Achilles injury and Florian Sturm (groin) also misses out.

Southend news

Southend boss Steve Tilson has a doubt over striker Laurent for the visit to the promotion hopefuls. The 22-year-old missed the 1-0 win over Northampton at Roots Hall on Boxing Day due to illness and is doubtful once again. However, Tilson is boosted by the return of defensive duo Adam Barrett and Dan Harding after both missed out against Northampton with one-match bans. Johnny Herd and Osei Sankofa replaced the pair on Friday and Tilson may be tempted to keep faith with them following a strong defensive display. Veteran striker Dougie Freedman returned from a shoulder injury to play the full 90 minutes against Northampton and is set to continue in the starting line-up.
