Molde 3-1 Celtic: Hoops fall short on wet night in Norway
Friday 23 October 2015 06:48, UK
Celtic lost 3-1 at Molde in Europa League Group A as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer began his second spell in charge of the Norwegian club with victory.
Ola Kamara and former Southampton man Vegard Forren both found the net as the hosts raced into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes on a wet night on the Norwegian west coast on Thursday.
Kris Commons pulled a goal back with a skillful chip on 55 minutes but Mohamed Elyounoussi made it 3-1 immediately from the restart after yet more poor defending from the Hoops.
And the defeat means Ronny Deila's side are bottom of their group, without a victory in their opening three games.
Solskjaer, meanwhile, watched from high in the stands after taking charge of the Norwegian champions again on Wednesday and he will be delighted with the side he has inherited.
Celtic dominated possession throughout the game, and did so from the first minute, but Molde were constantly dangerous on the break and took all three of their goals in that manner.
Kamara bagged the first on 11 minutes after a misplaced pass just inside their own half had Celtic back-pedalling, and allowed the Norway striker to gather a pass and fire home inside the near post.
The Hoops remained on the front foot but had only speculative shots on goal, and then Forren found a second for Molde on 18 minutes when he volleyed into the far corner first time from a deep cross to the far post.
Celtic started the second half strongly and forced Molde right-back Martin Linnes into an error, giving the ball straight to Commons, who dropped a shoulder and beat the keeper with aplomb.
But Commons was substituted after Elyounoussi smashed in the third at the far post, and he was seen giving a furious volley of anger to Deila's assistant John Collins on the bench as he took his seat.
Celtic host Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, with their next Europa League assignment - the return match against Molde at Parkhead - on Thursday, November 5.
