Alan Irvine says he may have decision to make on Norwich job

Alan Irvine admits he may have a decision to make as to whether to become the next Norwich manager, despite saying he never wanted the interim spell in the first place.

Irvine took over as caretaker manager in March after Alex Neil's sacking, and has won four of his eight games in charge.

After Norwich's latest win, over already-promoted Brighton on Friday, Irvine says he may have a decision to make, even if he wasn't keen on the caretaker position at first.

"The head coach will decide whether they want me, and then in what capacity, and then it may be a decision for me to make. But we'll just wait and see," Irvine told Sky Sports. "I've enjoyed this little spell, even if I didn't want it and didn't come here for this, but I've enjoyed it, and hopefully we'll get good results in the next two games."

Irvine's side beat Brighton 2-0 thanks to two own goals from goalkeeper David Stockdale, coming from two identical Alex Pritchard's efforts.

The caretaker manager praised the hosts' performance, saying they played at a high level for the entire 90 minutes.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton felt his side fell short of the standards they had set all season

"I thought it was an excellent performance," Irvine added. "Obviously they made some changes, which I thought would actually be more of a threat to us because clearly there were a number of players really looking forward to getting a start for them.

"Our performance had to be at a really high level and I thought it was throughout the whole game.

"They were two terrific shots. David Stockdale was really unfortunate with both of them, but they were two excellent shots, and with that sort of quality of shooting you would hope that he gets the credit for the goal.

"I'm sure David Stockdale doesn't want them either!"
