Sampdoria are interested in bringing Leicester City defender Yohan Benalouane back to Serie A in the January transfer window.

The French centre-back, 28, only joined the Foxes from Atalanta in August but has struggled to make an impact, managing just four substitute appearances in the league.

Sampdoria are keen to add defensive reinforcements after leaking 26 goals in 17 Serie A games - fourth worst in the league - and are ready to offer Benalouane a swift return to Italy.

Benalouane has found his opportunities limited at King Power Stadium with Wes Morgan and Robert Huth firmly established as Claudio Ranieri's first-choice centre-back pairing, while Marcin Wasilewski also appears to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

A former France U21 international, the 6ft 2in Benalouane began his career at St Etienne before moving to Italy in 2010, when he signed for newly promoted Cesena in Serie A.

He then moved on to Parma in 2012 before a January 2014 switch to Atalanta, who he helped to avoid relegation from Serie A.
