Watford are close to completing a deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Mario Suarez, Sky sources understand.
Suarez will sign a four-year contract at Vicarage Road and the deal is likely to be officially confirmed on Tuesday.
Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores worked alongside the Spain international when the pair were at Atletico Madrid; the club from whom the midfielder joined Fiorentina last summer.
However, Suarez has struggled to make an impact in Serie A and has started just five games for Fiorentina.
"We are expecting to incorporate another player during the week," said Flores. "At the moment we're supporting all the players we have in the squad. Probably what is coming is one central midfielder."
Suarez has won three caps for Spain and during his second stint for Atletico was a key player in helping Diego Simeone's side win La Liga and reach the Champions League final in 2014.
Watford have already recruited Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon and Malaga striker Nordin Amrabat in the January transfer window.
