York City have re-signed Huddersfield Town central defender William Boyle on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old first joined the Minstermen on loan in November and played six games for the Sky Bet League 2 strugglers before being recalled by the Terriers last month.

Boyle has made just one appearance for Huddersfield since his return - as a late substitute in the 2-1 defeat at Preston on February 6 - and has now been allowed to head back to Bootham Crescent by Town manager David Wagner.

Boyle had started to form a solid partnership with Dave Winfield at the back for York during his initial loan spell and boss Jackie McNamara will welcome his return as he looks to guide City away from the relegation zone in their remaining 14 matches this season.

"I wanted to keep him from day one, so I'm delighted to bring him back. I thought he was excellent before," McNamara told The Press.

"He was aggressive in the air and a very good talker for a young player and, hopefully, he will play a big part in the remaining games."
