Celtic's Kris Commons open to Hibs extension after end of loan spell

Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has said he would be open to extending his stay at Hibernian.

The former Scotland international signed off his emergency loan deal with the winning goal at Dumbarton as Hibs moved six points clear at the top of the Championship.

Commons scored the only goal of the game as Hibernian stretched their lead at the top of the Scottish Championship with a 1-0 win at Dumbarton

Commons, who also scored a crucial winner against Falkirk during his five appearances for Neil Lennon's side, is out of contract at Celtic this summer and has not played since Brendan Rodgers took over last May.

Speaking after the 1-0 win at Dumbarton, he said: “I’d like to think I have contributed in my time here.

“But they have helped me out just as much. It has been a pleasure to play for Hibs.

“Obviously, going for championships and winning trophies appeals – if this team could get promotion it would be a big thing for Edinburgh and the Premiership.

“If I can be a part of that it will be great not only for Neil but myself. I need to speak to Celtic first and foremost.”

He said: “It was a great finish from Kris and he’s again won us the game.

"I’ve done a lot of talking about him in the last few days and I’m sure I’ll have a bit more to do in the next few days! I don’t know what our chances are of keeping him.”
