Carlisle have signed former West Brom midfielder Samir Nabi on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old left the Premier League club last summer and joined the Delhi Dynamos where he gained experience in the Indian Super League. But Nabi has now joined Keith Curle's side with a view of sealing a long-term deal at the end of the campaign.

Boss Curle is delighted to acquire Nabi's services and believes the midfielder will add quality to United's midfield.

"He's had an excellent grounding and he's another who has something slightly different to what we already have in the group," Curle told the club's official website.

"He's used to playing in a midfield three where he has licence to get forward and he likes to find the back of the net.

"Joining us at this stage of the season gives him a chance to remind everyone what he's all about. He has physical presence, he won't shy away from a challenge, he's good on the ball and he'll add to the competition for places we need to see."

The signing remains subject to the clearance of all relevant paperwork.

Meanwhile, the Cumbrians have also added former Barnet striker Ben Tomlinson on non-contract terms following a week of training with the Sky Bet League Two club.

Tomlinson joined the Bees in 2015 and went on to enjoy loan spells at Grimsby, Tranmere and Barrow before leaving the Hive by mutual consent in January 2017.

Curle said: "Ben has been with us this week and he's impressed us all with the hunger he's shown to be involved. He has good habits and dynamics and he likes scoring goals and causing opposition defences as many problems as possible."
